Acquisition of Kanal-Schäfer Umweltservice by GSB Sonderabfall-Entsorgung Bayern

Promecon exclusively advised the shareholder of the Kanal-Schäfer Umweltservice GmbH on the sale to GSB Sonderabfall-Entsorgung Bayern GmbH.

The GSB Sonderabfall-Entsorgung Bayern GmbH (GSB) acquires the environmental services company Kanal-Schäfer Umweltservice GmbH in Backnang. Following due diligence and the successful conclusion of the takeover negotiations, the corresponding contracts were signed on October 2, 2024.

The takeover ensures the long-term continuation of the established medium-sized company. The fact that the long-standing managing partner Peter Schäfer will remain with the company ensures that relationships with customers and stakeholders remain intact.

The Kanal-Schäfer Umweltservice GmbH (KSU) was founded more than three decades ago and today sees itself as a full-service provider of disposal services with particular expertise in the areas of dangerous goods transport and hazardous waste. KSU's service profile includes consulting and the development of professional disposal concepts. With its own fleet of vehicles, the logistics of waste transportation can be presented flexibly and in line with the task at hand. The focus of operational activities is a mechanical vapor compression (MVC) plant for liquid waste, which is supplied with environmentally friendly electricity from the company's own photovoltaic system. KSU's clients are municipalities, cities, the dual systems in Germany, private households and companies from industry, trade and commerce.

“We are very satisfied with the agreement reached, in which the long-term perspective for our employees and the further development of the company played a particularly important role,” summarizes Peter Schäfer.

For over 50 years, GSB has been responsible for the environmentally friendly disposal of hazardous industrial waste. The company has 11 locations in Bavaria with 4 chemical-physical treatment plants for liquid waste, 2 high-performance rotary kilns and 3 landfill locations. By acquiring the certified waste management company KSU, GSB is expanding its portfolio of technical facilities and at the same time extending its geographical presence in southern Germany.

The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price or other financial details. The strategic sales process was exclusively managed and successfully completed by the M&A advisory firm Promecon.
